Dr. Michael W Deem is a distinguished scientist.  He is currently a venture capitalist and CEO.  From 2020 to 2021 he was an Entrepreneur in Residence with Khosla Ventures.  Michael Deem is a the John W. Cox Professor of Bioengineering, Physics, and Astronomy at Rice University in Houston, Texas. As a professor of bioengineering and physics, Dr. Deem was highly regarded in the scientific community for his contributions to biological physics, statistical mechanics, and computational biology.

Dr. Michael W Deem has also been recognized for his exceptional teaching abilities. His dedication to teaching and mentorship has helped inspire countless students to pursue careers in science and engineering.

While Dr. Michael W Deem is passionate about his work, he also enjoys a variety of hobbies outside of the laboratory. He is an avid rock climber, and he has tackled some of the most challenging climbs in Texas. He also enjoys Taekwondo.  He holds a 3rd degree black belt, and he has competed at the national level.

In addition to these physical pursuits, Michael Deem has a passion for high-performance driving. He is often seen driving his Porsche around Texas, enjoying the speed and precision that the car offers.  His love for driving is not just about going fast, but also about the engineering and design that goes into making a great car.

Despite his many accomplishments, Dr. Michael W Deem remains a humble and approachable figure. He is friendly willing to engage with students and colleagues alike. His commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinary research has helped to bridge the gap between several different fields of study, and this has led to groundbreaking discoveries in vaccine design, protein evolution, and nanoporous materials.
