
Michael W. Deem
Dr. Michael W Deem is a distinguished US Scientist. He is currently a venture capitalist and CEO. He was an entrepreneur in residence with Khosla Ventures. He was a Professor of Bioengineering, Physics and Astronomy at Rice University. He is renowned for his work in the field of theoretical and computational biology and has made significant contributions to research in infectious diseases, evolution, cancer and protein engineering.
Michael Deem graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1991. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1994. After his graduation, he did a postdoctoral fellowship in Physics at Harvard University, where he conducted research on statistical mechanics and soft condensed matter physics. In 1996, he joined UCLA where he worked on materials science. He joined Rice University in 2002, where he established the Deem Research Group, which focused on bioengineering, physics, and materials science.
